Understanding the importance both environmentally and
safety-wise of having a clean beach,
Blue Flag has developed a criterion stating that the beach must be
clean. In order to asses this cleanliness level, a "beach litter
measuring system" is used. This system was developed in 2006 by the
"Keep Holland Tidy" Dutch organisation, to avoid subjective
judgments of what is clean and what isn't. Indeed, the personal
interpretation of a "clean beach" makes measuring
complicated. Thanks to this system, everyone can judge a situation
according to the same standards, therefore ensuring objectiveness
and standard description of beach litter.
BeachTech being the first beach cleaning equipment
manufacturer, it was very natural to
start collaborating with Blue Flag in 2005. Since then, the
partnership has continued, anchored solidly in what Blue Flag and
BeachTech believe in. BeachTech has been present to all of Blue
Flag's yearly National Operators Meetings, enabling close
relationships with them. This past November, for the 2011 National
Operator Meeting, a demonstration was organised on the beach of
Usedom (Germany) to show the effectiveness of the BeachTech
machines. All were surprised to see litter collected on a beach
that seemed clean to the human eye!
"We are very proud of our partnership with BeachTech says
Finn Bolding Thomsen, Foundation for Environmental Education
Director.
